Schoolgirl costumes: A nod to pedophilia, or a mere return to adolescence ?

What do you think of schoolgirl costumes on strippers? I’ve heard various opinions on the association between schoolgirls and erotic fantasy. There are a large number of men who are attracted to schoolgirls, and I seek to fully understand this attraction. My opinion had been, until recently, that these men were borderline pedophiles, in a way. I believed that the attraction was based on the childlike quality of a school-aged girl. Men are hardwired to be attracted to youth. Biologically, young women are better reproductive vessels. So it makes sense.

However, schoolgirls seem like an awfully young subject for an erotic fantasy. Anyone who would be obligated to wear a schoolgirl uniform in the real world would be well under 17 years old, I’m guessing. Even worse, in my mind, I think of 12-year-olds as the most likely victims of this poor fashion situation.

So one night I sat next to a fellow stripper at the bar. “Nice skirt,” I say. We’re both wearing the tacky piece of red plaid that is instantly recognizable as the schoolgirl costume. We’re wearing the same damn thing. How embarrassing. “It always makes money,” she tells me. I know she’s right. It really, really works. “Don’t you think it’s creepy that men are attracted to school girls? Freaking pedophiles.” She then shatters my paradigm with a fresh opinion. She tells me that she believes it is more about a man’s own youth. It reminds him of being young. It reminds him of having fun as a boy. It reminds him of chasing skirts in high school. Strip clubs are an escape, after all.

She said she would be very disgusted if men were attracted to the schoolgirl costume because it makes us look like children. I find myself constantly disgusted at work though. Sometimes I think I could not be any more disgusted and someone goes and impresses me by lowering the bar.

In another, less-perverted connection between fantasy and the schoolgirl, I like to think it has something to do with the visual representation of punk rockers and the associated deviance with them. Schoolgirl skirts, fishnet stockings and a gang of safety pins make this look. This type of deviant or “naughty school girl” might represent a girl that is willing to do things that would make a good girl cringe. Since punk rock is dead or marginal, depending on who you ask, I am not convinced this association represents the majority. I can only speculate.

First off I am not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV. So following is based on how I see it.
I think the answer is neither. Of course there is a small group of pedophiles out there but the main motivation is likely different. The reason that this and other dancer outfits spark interest with us is that men desire what they don't have or can't have. The other reason is as one of my favorite philosophers said: There is no substitute for youth. And that outfit does advertise youth like no other.

Your average customer base, well at least the group that spends money on dances, is likely at least twice the age of most strippers. So that you are 24 or 17 is about the same from that customer's point of view.

Part of the attraction of going to a club and having a hot and more or less naked girl "dance" for us is that it is a fantasy world. So we want you to wear a corset, a hot tiny outfit or a school girl outfit because it drastically differs from our home life (in most cases). I am not even sure I have ever seen a real plaid schoolgirl outfit on an actual 17 year old school girl, but plenty of them in clubs and in certain kind of movies.

Unlike most dance outfits the school girl outfit does add another dimension to the above. There is a certain attraction to the naughty forbidden part of sex and as you pointed out real school girls are off limits. If I would be you I would not worry about it. If there is an easy way to raise revenue by a few points, do it. If "blond school girl" is what is in demand you should deliver relentlessly! Don't blame us; we are programmed to like it and will happily pay the associated price tag.

In Japan, the school-girl sex fantasy is rampant everywhere. I have to confess the girls sure are cute in their little skirts and socks. It is a turn on.

I think there is an element of pedophilia in it for some men, but also as zGerman gets at, it is also just taboo, and therefore appealing to many, Like anal sex videos, which seem to be about 30% of many adult video stores rental selection these days. Appealing due to the taboo nature.

I may be wierd, but i've never really cared for them. Maybe it's not having gone to Catholic school? Skirts are nice, the shorter the better, but i'd take a lil denim skirt and a short white top any day over a schoolgirl outfit...

Until 1969, such favored Ivy League schools as Yale, Harvard and Princeton were men only. So were the prep schools leading to these colleges. So any type of schoolgirl was a challenge, and most of us reached middle age without even talking to a cheerleader. So it is not taboo, but a searching for a lost chapter of youth. Proust called it "A la recherche du temps perdu." Vivent les ecolieres!
